X9Ware announced X9Assist support for the Linux platform as part of our R2.10 release. This announcement includes the capability to run all X9Ware tools on Linux. As with Windows, we use the Excelsior Jet Java compiler to create the Linux executables for X9Assist and X9Utilities. Common Linux platforms are supported including Ubuntu and Debian. These are 32 bit binaries which will support extremely large x9 files (over 100,000 items). Our product road map includes the release of a 64 bit version of X9Assist for Linux subject to actual customer need.
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding our Linux support. X9Ware does not make these downloads publicly available but instead provide them on a case by case basis. Customers who already have a Windows license will receive a discount if they also require licensing on Linux.
Our desktop interfaces (eg, for Excel and HTML are fully implemented within the Linux environment:
- Excel (.xls extension) documents are launched by association using the file extension. This interface automatically detects the installed tools and supports MS-Excel as well as other tools such as Libre Calc or OpenOffice Calc. X9Assist export of XLS files is compatible with these commonly used tools.
- HTML help documents (.html extension) documents are similarly launched by association using the file extension. This interface automatically detects the installed tools and supports various common internet browsers including Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. X9Assist export of HTML files is compatible with these commonly used tools.
Our internal XML definitions (both x9 and TIFF) are compatible between Windows and Linux and can be shared across these platforms. Our X9Assist license key validation process is similarly compatible across the Windows and Linux platforms. The same license key and encrypted elicense.txt file can be used across these systems.
This announcement goes beyond X9Assist. As a part of R2.10 and going forward into the future, the X9Ware SDK is now fully Linux compatible. We have customers running X9Utilities and our SDK on a variety of Linux platforms. This announcement delivers on the platform independence made possible from our Java based tools. X9Ware LLC wants to be your x9 tools vendor and these platform capabilities further achieve that goal.
